House training is easiest when the weather is cooperative. The owner of a new puppy will want to spend as much time outside with the dog as possible. In this way, the dog will begin to prefer eliminating outside rather than in the home.

It is especially important to take the dog outside after it is eaten, woken up, or finished playing. Many professional dog trainers recommend that a puppy be taken outside at least once every half-hour. This means that may be necessary to get up with the dog several times during the night to ensure that it does not go indoors.

Keeping the puppy in a crate or kennel is also a good way to discourage him from relieving himself indoors during the night.
