The first method is to yelp when bitten. Do this even if you are not actually injured. Since puppies are social animals, refusing to play with them can be effective for training them.

When you are nipped at or bitten, yelp like a dog or cry out ouch. You may then walk away, returning after a minute or two. If the puppy nips or bites at you again, repeat the process. This will teach the puppy that nipping and biting is bad because it hurts you.

The second method  is to fill an empty can with pennies or rocks. Tape the mouth of the can shut after filling it with coins or rocks. When the puppy bites or nips at you, say something like ouch or no bite, and shake the can.

This helps to enforce the verbal command, since puppies hate the noise of items rattling in cans. Another method is to use a spray bottle. When your puppy bites you, spray him with water. If the spray bottle has a light mist setting, you can spray him in the face. This is not recommended if you only have a jet stream spray bottle.
